Sunapee Demo Day

I never wrote about demo day – and now that the snow is a distant memory in our yard, these snowy pictures look awfully intense. Demo day is exactly what it sounds like – you get to try out skis. Mount Sunapee has a local ski shop come once a season to let skiers try out next year’s models. Basically, the buyers go to the snow show in Denver earlier in the year, figure out what they want to get for next year (2015 in...

Getting ready for spring

It’s definitely mud season around here, which makes it really hard to do much in the way of outdoor sports. So basically, mud season has turned into “retail therapy because it’s not snowing but you still can’t really do anything outside” season. Good thing there have been lots of sales. It’s also a great time to sit back, relax after an extremely fun winter, and plan for the next beautiful Vermont season: spring! Hiking Josh and I have been researching daypacks. We both have a...

Half Marathon Training: Week Nine

This week was supposed to be my “recovery” week, but it ended up being kind of challenging and kind of not at the same time… challenging in that I had every kind of quality workout scheduled for the week, but not challenging in that I nailed all of them. Which, of course, felt great, and was a huge encouragement. Sun: rest Mon: Body Board (core and strength) Tues: Long run: 12 miles Wed: Body Board (core and strength) Thu: Tempo run, 3miles at high 9mm...

A slight incline - not hard to hike or run, but a bit harder on skinny skis. 7

Confession: I might hate XC skiing

Sad, right? I say “might” because I’m still holding out hope that once I actually learn how to do it, I’ll really love XC (cross-country) skiing. Unfortunately, right now I’m a pretty miserable skier in terms of both skill and quality of experience. I can handle flat, dry-ish snow in tracks pretty well – but that’s like saying “I can run outside when it’s sunny and 50 degrees.” Well, of course. Once we pop into the woods or try to deal with sub-par snow, the...

Citrus Shortbread recipe: perfect with Tisano Tea or any other time

And here is the promised cookie recipe from last week! I made these twice, once with oranges and once with grapefruit. I was honestly hoping the grapefruit version would turn out, but I think I used a little too much zest (I doubled what I have written below!) So, take it easy on the zest here, but you can substitute any citrus fruit you like. Grapefruit and orange are the two I tried, but there’s lemon as well (mix with almond extract instead of vanilla)....

Watching my HR go up and down was really helpful - I am slowly learning how to approach hills, flats, etc. and get the most out of them. 2

Half Marathon Training: Week Eight

Sun: rest Mon: Tempo Run, 3.6 miles and Body Board workout Tues: Quick Run + Ski Workout Weds: Easy Bike, 60 mins Thurs: Ski day (XT) Fri: Easy Bike at true MAF heart rate Sat: 5 mile run, MAF Total mileage: 11 ish I missed my long run workout this week because of weather – I switched to the hour run on Saturday because we thought a storm was coming in around 2. I could have gotten the whole 12 miles in. Oh well –...

Other stuff and an opinion or tutu

Hello! I’m enjoying my blog break this week and getting a lot done. Fortunately, two other websites decided to publish articles I submitted this week, making it super easy and convenient to just link to those and call it a day. Laaazzzyyyy. I’m Fit Possible Blog: Why I might be a poser You’ve probably noticed that we like being outside. Lately I’ve been feeling a little self-conscious about it since I’m not a real “outdoors-woman” (stupid, right?) Anyway, I wrote this article after thinking through...
